Pre-Christmas cleaning (December 17-20)

Some of the waste collected during the December 17-20 clean-up activity

More than 35,000kgs of litter disposed of in 127 trips to landfills

More than 35,000kgs of litter were collected and disposed of in 127 trips to the landfills on Mahé, Praslin and La Digue during the weekend December 17-20.

It seems Seychellois seized the opportunity of the landfills being free of charge to clean their yards and households during the Pre-Christmas clean-up campaign over the weekend.

The above mentioned statistics were shared with us yesterday by the Landscape and Waste Management Agency.

On Mahé, 64 trips to the landfill were recorded, 37 trips on Praslin and 26 trips on La Digue.

To recall this activity has been conducted by individuals only and they were free to dispose of their wastes at the different landfills during the four days.

“This is the first activity that we encouraged the public to participate and the outcome is not too bad. We hope that the public will get use to these types of activity and will also think of the kind of products they are buying,” noted the deputy chief executive of the LWMA, Rahul Mangroo.

The next clean-up activities will be conducted on the week-end before Easter which will fall on March 26-28, 2021.
