Work progresses on concept of new La Digue hospital |09 December 2020
President Wavel Ramkalawan chaired a first meeting to discuss the concept of the new La Digue Hospital.
The meeting took place at State House on Monday morning.
It stems from the presidential visit held on La Digue last month, where President Ramkalawan pledged his commitment to ensure the island benefits with the building of a new state-of-the-art modern hospital at the proposed site at L’Union Estate.
The meeting was attended by Vice-President Ahmed Afif, Minister for Health Peggy Vidot, principal secretary for health Dr Bernard Valentin, public health commissioner Dr Jude Gedeon, chief executive of the Health Care Agency, Dr Danny Louange and the project’s architect Paul Lesperance.
President Ramkalawan and his delegation also on Monday morning visited the proposed site for the new isolation centre and the rebuilding of new National Institute of Health and Social Studies (NIHSS) campus to be located near the Seychelles Hospital.
The objective of the visit was to mainly view firsthand the current state of the site, space available as well as its suitability based on surrounding activities in the vicinity.
All discussions are in the preliminary stages and will undergo the process of consultation with all relevant entities prior to any final decision being taken.
