Fraud Awareness Week 2020 |19 November 2020
‘Fraud alert! Online safety is the new normal’
The Central Bank of Seychelles (CBS) has initiated a calendar of activities to commemorate International Fraud Awareness Week 2020 from November 15 to 21, a global initiative which is in its 20th year.
Locally, activities are being held under the theme ‘Fraud alert! Online safety is the new normal’ with the aim of shining a spotlight on various fraudulent activities that take place online and creating awareness on how individuals can prevent themselves from falling victim to internet scammers.
The theme has been chosen in view of increasing products and services that are migrating to online platforms amid the Covid-19 pandemic, which has changed the way we interact.
In this light, all awareness initiatives scheduled will be delivered by the CBS and
representatives of the banking community in a non-contact setting, taking into consideration the current health guidelines. These include interviews on Radyo Sesel, Paradise FM, K-Radio and PureFM; publication of awareness materials in Seychelles NATION and TODAY in Seychelles; airing of awareness videos on SBC and Telesesel; and various posts to be shared on social media including the Financial Education for Seychelles Facebook page.
The week will culminate in a virtual Fraud Awareness Session for post-secondary students, exploring topics such as internet safety and security.
The public is being invited to follow the Financial Education for Seychelles Facebook page
(https://www.facebook.com/FinancialEducationSeychelles/) for more information and tips on how to stay safe online.
To note that this is the second consecutive year that the CBS and commercial banks join the annual global initiative to raise awareness about fraud. Last year, activities took place under the umbrella of ‘Fraud: Know it, detect it, prevent it!’
