Port Victoria claims 8th Indian Ocean’s leading cruise port title

Port Victoria has for the eighth time been named the Indian Ocean’s Leading Cruise Port

Port Victoria has won another title as the Indian Ocean’s Leading Cruise Port.

This was announced by the World Travel Awards on Tuesday November 10, 2020. It is the eighth time that Port Victoria receives this prestigious accolade.

Retaining this title is testimony to the commitment, hard work and close collaboration and coordination of the Seychelles Ports Authority (SPA) with other esteemed stakeholders such as the Public Health Authority, immigration department, customs, destination management companies, tourist guides, taxi operators, shipping agents, craft vendors, entertainers, the police as well as the understanding and cooperation of port terminal operator.

Port Victoria was due to welcome new cruise lines during the last 2018/19 season. However, the outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic and a consequent change in national public health policy towards the cruise ship industry significantly impacted the season resulting in several cancellations.

With the current economic outlook and the prevailing uncertainties surrounding tourism and travel and the fact that the world cruise industry is more or less in hibernation, Port Victoria will now strategise, and based on the directive of the government and the policy advice of the Public Health Authority, get ready to welcome the next cruise liners and our maritime guests to our shores.
