To celebrate its jubilee anniversary, which falls on November 14, the Indian Ocean Tuna Ltd has made a donation of tuna products worth R57,886 to various orphanages.

The donation took place on Tuesday at the Indian Ocean Tuna Ltd (IOT) headquarters, New Port and was attended by managers, IOT star awardees, Thai Union 6 Value ambassador and other team members.

IOT falls under the Thai Union Group company and 25 years ago, from this day, a new company was created and began its journey to becoming the seafood industry's leading agent of change while empowering local talents to ensure the business continuity.

Raina Nicette and Trassy Carolla, two yellow fin graduates, have currently embarked on a fast track lane to management position with a clearly defined programme and timeframe to reach their goal.

“This week on November 14, 1OT celebrates a milestone, our 25th anniversary (silver jubilee). It’s a day to celebrate our success, a day worth celebrating. We pride ourselves on being the most sustainable company in Seychelles and the pillar of our economy offering employment stability for many Seychellois. This day will not have been possible without our greatest assets ‒ our amazing team members. We appreciate your effort in taking lOT to this whole new height. Today, however, we are here for something else, or should I say for someone else. We are here today for the children, the future of our country,” noted Miss Carolla.

Miss Carolla further added that to commemorate this silver jubilee, IOT found it fitting to share this celebration with the less fortunate. These tuna products valued at R57,886 will be distributed to all orphanages in Seychelles. Hopefully, they will be served as a delicious meal!

Throughout the year, as part of the company’s corporate social responsibility, IOT has made other donations, the most recent and notable one to the Ministry of Health.

During this special week, IOT has also planned other activities including quiz on the radio with wonderful memorabilia for the winners, free gifts for all IOT team members, video presentations and others.

Angel Moustache and François Jeremie who have been with IOT for the past 30 and 33 years respectively had the honour of presenting the donations to the orphanages.

IOT has 1,969 staff ‒ 603 Seychellois and 1,366 expatriates – and only during the Covid-19 pandemic 336 Seychellois joined the company.

The main brands IOT puts on the local market are Petit Navire, Mareblu and John West.
