ISS celebrates Teachers’ Day

On October 5, the International School Seychelles (ISS) celebrated its teaching and non-teaching staff on the occasion of World Teachers’ Day.

Globally, Covid-19 has shed the spotlight on education and it is no surprise that the theme for 2020’s Teachers’ Day is focused on the leadership and innovation that teachers have displayed in this crisis.

The chairperson of the Board of Governors, Priscille Chetty, commended the teachers and staff at ISS for their dedicated role in making meaningful and long-term impact in the lives of the children and in the community and highlighted that, through the school closures in the earlier part of the year, they rose to the challenge of delivering class content online to ensure learning never stops.

At ISS, there is firm belief that a good education is the fundamental bedrock for building fair, just and sustainable societies and that the vital role of teachers and staff cannot be overstated.

Students in primary and secondary showcased their respect and gratitude for their teachers with beautifully hand crafted ‘Thank You’ messages, songs, poems, flowers, wishes and gifts. Display boards and message boards were set up in common areas for students to leave a note for their teachers. The Sixth Formers volunteered to shoulder some of the supervision responsibilities during break-times.

As per the usual practice the dynamic Parent Teacher Association of ISS was extremely generous in putting together a thoughtful gift hamper of tea-time snacks, coffee and other goodies for all the teachers to enjoy and the Board of Governors sponsored some delightful cakes.

The senior leadership team too showcased their appreciation for their teams in their unique way affirming the long-lasting relationships forged by teachers not just with the students but within the community.

In the words of Henry Adams, “A teacher affects eternity; he can never tell where his influence stops,” and ISS recognises their incredible staff for their efforts.

ISS would like to give a warm shout-out to all the hard-working teachers across the islands making a difference each and every day – big or small – by reaching out, inspiring and touching the minds of young learners.

Happy Teachers’ Day.
