What is happening this week?

This Ministry of Habitat, Infrastructure and Land Transport (MHILT) is once again hosting several activities to commemorate Habitat Week in a ‘new normal’ style.

World Habitat Day was established in 1985 by the United Nations General Assembly through Resolution 40/202. The day was first celebrated in 1986 and each year a new theme is adopted to bring attention to UN-Habitat’s mandate to promote sustainable development policies.

World Habitat day takes place on the first Monday of October and this year the day was commemorated on Monday October 5 under the theme ‘Housing for All: A better Urban Future’.

In Seychelles, the MHILT has been commemorating this event for over a decade and this year the activities will be on a smaller scale compared to previous years. This year activities being organised will be focused on the housing sector to emphasise this year’s theme.

One activity targeting the public in general is a Facebook game under the #habitatweek2020.

  2. Post the picture using #habitatweek2020 on MHILT Facebook page
