Seychellois passes away in India

Vinoth Khanna Chetty

A Seychellois of Indian descent, Vinoth Khanna Chetty, lost his life early in September following a brutal attack in India.

Mr Chetty, who worked at his family’s shop at Ma Joie, English River, had recently travelled to the southern Indian state of Tamil Nadu to get married.

Images received by Seychelles NATION shows Mr Chetty lying in a pool of his own blood with gruesome head injuries, that could possibly have been caused by a knife or machete as has been alleged.

It was a fellow local businessman, Anandan Padayachy, who brought this tragedy to the attention of our newspaper.

Mr Padayachy notes that he has a strong suspicion of who might have had a hand in his friend’s demise since they had been in constant communication up until the incident.

“Some friends in India found him a wife to marry and some 15 and 18 months ago the family left their shop in Seychelles for me to manage until their return,” said Mr Padayachy.

“He talked to me on WhatsApp and informed me on various issues that were arising in terms of money and property.”

According to Mr Padayachy, Mr Chetty’s widow had filed a report to the Tamil Nadu state police which have been on the hunt for seven suspects in the presumed foul play case.

Meanwhile in Seychelles, Mr Padayachy had filed his own statement to local law enforcement which he alleged are undertaking their own investigation.

“I would like to note that Vinoth holds a Seychellois passport and is a Seychellois national. I would like for the police to look into this case,” said Mr Padayachy.

The Seychelles police force has yet to respond to our queries.
