United States’ Department of Defense Annual Report |09 September 2020

Seychelles’ foreign affairs department sets the record straight

The department of Foreign Affairs has made reference to the United States (US) Department of Defense Annual Report to the US Congress published on September 2, 2020.

The report, which addresses the US’ perspective on the military and security developments involving the People’s Republic of China, claims that Seychelles is identified as one of four African countries that the People’s Republic of China may consider as locations for military logistics facilities.

“The department of Foreign Affairs would like to clarify that Seychelles has excellent relations with both China and the US. In fact, we have outstanding collaboration with both countries in the maritime security sector. However, this matter has never featured on the agenda of our frequent discussions,” says a communiqué from the department of Foreign Affairs.
