Absa Bank (Seychelles) Limited has, through the Ministry of Education and Human Resource Development(MEHRD), donated 58 infrared thermometers to crèches and day care centres in the country in effort to combat the coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic.

It was the head of marketing corporate relations, Amanda Bernstein, who presented the infrared thermometers, on behalf of Absa Bank (Seychelles) Limited, to the principal secretary for early Childhood and Secondary Education, Dr Odile Decomarmond, for the 29 government schools and 29 private pre-schools.

The 58 infrared thermometers have a value of slightly over R57,000.

The brief handover ceremony was held yesterday afternoon in the Ministry of Education hall behind the Seychelles Institute of Teacher Education (Site).

Present were the chief executive officer of the Institute for Early Childhood Development (IECD), Shirley Choppy, the director general of Early Childhood and Primary Education, Cyril Pillay, crèches teachers, other representatives from MEHRD, IECD and Absa, and day care operators who were attending a session of the preliminary findings of the early learning readiness for children in home-based and centre-based childminding services.

Addressing the gathering, Mrs Bernstein said that Absa, as part of its commitment, is trying to as much as possible give its support to the community to fight Covid-19 pandemic.

She stated that there was need for such important equipment at various entry points at the crèches and day care centres and Absa wanted to boost capacity of the wonderful work the people were doing to contain the virus.

Mr Pillay thanked Absa Bank (Seychelles) Limited for its wonderful gesture and noted that it will boost capacity to tighten vigilance at crèches and day care centres.

He said that the infrared thermometers will be put to good use.

The ceremony ended with the signing of the acknowledgement and compliance letter by PS Decomarmond and Mrs Bernstein.
