Two other Seychellois remanded in maritime drug trafficking case |04 August 2020

The Supreme Court has remanded for 11 days two other Seychellois in connection with the recent maritime drug trafficking case.

The two now join the five Seychellois seamen linked to the case and who are also presently on remand until August 14.

The two newly arrested self-employed men, one aged 52 years hailing from Petit Paris and the other aged 38 years from Cascade, were both arrested by officers of the Anti-Narcotics Bureau (ANB) of the Seychelles Police Force on Friday July 31, 2020 at Petit Paris.

The five other men – a 37-year-old skipper from Anse Boileau, a 36-year-old man of Pointe Conan, two 51-year-old men both from Anse à la Mouche, and a 43-year-old resident of Cascade – were all arrested on Wednesday July 29, 2020 on a sailing yacht, at sea, within the Seychelles EEZ during a joint coordinated marine operation which had the participation of ANB, the National Information Sharing and Coordination Centre (NISCC), Seychelles Air Force and Seychelles Coast Guard (SPDF).

During the operation, the sailing yacht was intercepted by the Coast Guard vessel along with ANB officers which resulted into the seizure (for further investigation) of a large substantial quantity of suspected drugs which was found in the possession of the five suspects.

All these suspects are facing several drug charges.
