The Seychelles National Youth Council (SNYC) organised a workshop on Friday for various musicians to discuss about the four values that the council has launched for 2020.

Present at the workshop was the chief executive of SNYC Penny Belmont, the honorary cultural ambassador Patrick Victor, Mayor of Victoria David Andre, and several musicians.

“Musicians are key people in spreading a message in the community through their work which is why we wanted them to know more about our values so that they can include it in their songs or poems,” said Ms Belmont.

She added that musicians are role models to young people in the society so when they work with SNYC they will be placed in different sections such as mentorship or events programmes.

Ms Belmont also noted that SNYC is working with many partners so that they can offer the best service to the community and reach out to youths in need.

“We all need to come together in order to make a change and work towards the same goals by teaching young people good values,” said Ms Belmont.

Beryl Dodin, a facilitator of the workshop, noted that the musicians have been inspired by the work that SNYC is doing in terms of instilling these good values in the society.

“The workshop was very enlightening as we were under the impression that SNYC deals only with youths but their work goes far deeper than that and encapsulates everyone in the community when it comes to compassion and support,” said Patrick Victor, one of the attendees of the training.

He added that it’s a good initiative as it has brought artists on board with them, noting that the media needs to be more aware of the work that SNYC is doing to get more people involved.
