GOP of non-Seychellois outside Seychelles revoked |01 August 2020

The gainful occupation permits of all non-Seychellois nationals currently out of Seychelles have been revoked with immediate effect.

The Ministry of Employment, Immigration and Civil Status made the announcement yesterday in a press release informing companies and employers of the decision taken by the cabinet of ministers on Wednesday July 29, 2020.

As a result, these gainful occupation permits (GOP) holders will not be able to enter the country to take up or resume employment. The decision, which has been taken in the public interest in accordance with Section 17 (9) of the Immigration Decree 1979, will not affect GOPs issued to the medical, agricultural, and fisheries sectors.

The ministry would further like to inform companies and employers that a new mechanism is being put in place to re-assess the merits of all posts in the face of new economic realities based on submission of new applications.

In the interim and notwithstanding the newly introduced GOP framework, new GOPs will be considered only to employees involved in national priority projects and services and the sectors already mentioned above.
