Four men convicted for drug trafficking

 

Four men have been convicted by the Supreme Court in four separate drug cases, after they all pleaded guilty to the offence of trafficking in a controlled drug.

On Thursday July 23, 2020, Jean-Luc, Bernard Woodcock, an unemployed 23-year-old resident of La Passe, La Digue who is presently on the methadone treatment programme, was sentenced to six months imprisonment, suspended for one year and a fine of R15,000 payable within a six-month period or otherwise he is to spend six months in prison.

Woodcock was arrested at La Passe on March 19, 2019 by officers of the Anti-Narcotics Bureau (ANB) within the Seychelles Police Force in possession of 57 pills of ecstasy (representing 27.9 grams of Methyl​enedioxy​methamphetamine).

Earlier during the same week, precisely on Monday July 20, 2020 the other three men were convicted as follows.

Guyto, Maurizo Figaro, a 29-year-old self-employed resident of Baie Lazare, who is also presently on methadone treatment programme, was sentenced to six months imprisonment, suspended for two years.

Figaro was arrested at Remiz Estate, Anse Royale on February 12, 2019 by ANB officers in possession of 8.33 grams of heroin.

Jourdan, Antoine Marengo, a 44-year-old farmer of Val d’Andorre, Baie Lazare was fined R10,000 payable by monthly instalment of R2,500 or otherwise he is to spend six months in prison.

Marengo was arrested at his residence on March 25, 2017 by the then NDEA officers in possession of 43.3 grams of herbal cannabis.

Lastly, Akim Cesar, a 22-year-old casual labourer of Corgat Estate was sentenced to six months imprisonment, suspended for two years and a fine of R10,000 payable within a six-month period or otherwise he is to spend six months in prison.

Cesar was arrested at Mont Fleuri on May 7, 2017 by the then NDEA officers in possession of 68.2 grams of herbal cannabis.
