Fifteen hardworking men were recognised on Saturday in a special ceremony held at the Mont Fleuri district administration office for being exemplary fathers and pillars of the community. The ceremony took place in the presence of district administrator Jency Volcère.

The 15 fathers were chosen by the youth committee based on the contributions they have made at community level, be it for electrical work, plumbing etc.

The ceremony which is being conducted for the first time was supposed to coincide with Father’s day which was in June but due to the COVID-19 pandemic the youth committee had to postpone it till July.

“Once we decided to organise the ceremony we knocked on many doors for sponsors and Cable & Wireless; member of the National Assembly for Mont Fleuri Hon. Jean-François Ferrari; Employment, Immigration and Civil Status Minister Myriam Telemaque; Grace upon Grace; and the Seychelles National Youth Council were all gracious enough to extend their support.

Pascal Renaud, Danny Philoé, Rodney Bone, Darius Duval, Steve Jupiter, Randolph Accouche, Michael Laure, Michel Roucou, Alain Jean, Marcus Jean, Joe Faure, Norris Nourrice, Raymond Clarisse, James Payet and Richemond Ernesta are the fathers who were honoured during the ceremony.

The fathers then cut a cake to celebrate the occasion as they were entertained by live singing and traditional dance.

Speaking to the press, Danny Philoé noted that he is proud to be able to be a good example for his children.

“I am honoured to be recognised for my efforts,” he said.

Randolph Accouche echoed the same sentiment as Mr Philoé, noting that “it is refreshing to see fathers get recognised as we always celebrate mothers, so this was a good initiative taken by the Mont Fleuri youth committee.”

A similar ceremony is in the works for mothers but it will be held at a later date.
