Vijay International School Praslin hosts annual graduation |07 July 2020
Vijay International School Praslin hosted its annual graduationlast Wednesday at Le Duc De Praslin Hotel.
During the school’s fifth graduation ceremony, Noah Labuschagne received the head of secondary prize for outstanding contribution to the school, whilst Phin Samraj was awarded the coveted head teacher's prize for outstanding academic achievement.
The ceremony was very well attended by graduates, staff, board members and parents and this was not an ordinary year for the graduates because although they were celebrating the end of their studies at this stage in life, they did not sit their final exams. Due to the worldwide cancellation of IGCSE and A-Level exams, students have instead been awarded a grade by their teachers based on mock exams and continuous class assessments.
The school now has a track record of excellent IGCSE results but this particular cohort is expected to break all school records, in spite of the cancellation of exams.
All year 11 students were presented with a prize from the school and were invited onstage to receive the applause ofthe audience. Noah Labuschagne received the head of secondary prize from head teacher Mark Howell for outstanding contribution to the school, whilst Phin Samraj was awarded the coveted head teacher's prize for outstanding academic achievement.
The school anticipates good A-Level results this year with an excellent cohort of students awaiting their results in August. The class has already secured places in some top universities around the world. Most notably, Aliette Vidot and Alyssa Testa have received offers from UK universities, whilst Julius Bossy will move to Australia to continue his studies. Other students will move on to the University of Seychelles or other vocational training centres in Seychelles.
After dinner, the school’sboard chairperson Emilia Vidot addressed the guests on the importance of education and the success of the students.
She spoke about the opportunities Vijay International School Praslin (VISP) has given to its students and the impacts its alumni are already having on Seychelles.
In his speech, head teacher Howellalso emphasised the growth of the school which now has full classes and waiting lists in effect in a number of classes in the school.
The school encourages any parent who is considering transferring their children to VISP to do so soon as places will soon be all taken.
Term at VISP ends on July 17 and the school will resume for the new academic year in September. However, the school’s office will remain open throughout the break for any parents wishing to enquire about enrolment.
