Repatriated Seychellois nationals from Europe arrive home safely |01 July 2020

Fifty Seychellois nationals stranded in various European countries were finally able to return home on an exclusive Air Seychelles repatriation flight on Saturday June 27, 2020.

This operation was a coordinated effort by the department of foreign affairs, Air Seychelles, public health authority and the Agency for National Human Resource Development (ANHRD). The latter’s involvement was to ensure that priority was given to returning graduates having recently completed their studies overseas.

The repatriation flight comprised Seychellois nationals stranded in many European countries: Belgium, Czech Republic, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Poland, Malta, Spain, Switzerland and the United Kingdom. A Seychellois family stranded in the United States also managed to connect to the repatriation flight. All passengers boarded Air Seychelles in Amsterdam for the inbound flight back home.

With the largest number of repatriated Seychellois nationals coming from the UK, the Seychelles high commissioner in London, Derick Ally, expressed his appreciation for the full cooperation that he received from all those being repatriated.

In keeping with the measures in force set by the public health authority during this pandemic, all the passengers are now in various quarantine centres, under strict supervision, for a period of 14 days.

Air Seychelles will be organising other repatriation flights as from the middle of July 2020, and all remaining stranded Seychellois are advised to liaise with the Seychelles diplomatic and consular missions in the countries where they are for more information.
