The Judiciary of Seychelles has donated a sum of R7471 to the ‘Make a Child Smile’ foundation.

The handover of the donation, held yesterday at the Palais de Justice, Ile du Port, was attended by Chief Justice Mathilda Twomey, judiciary officials, invited guests and Clifford Mondon, the founder of ‘Make a Child Smile’.

The sum of money was collected earlier this year during a mass for the opening of the Supreme Court and which was attended by lawyers, judges, judiciary officials, among others.

This marks the third year that the judiciary has donated to an organisation. Paster Lannwit was the recipient for last year where they receive a sum of five thousand plus rupees.

As the reopening of the court is an institutional activity, staff members were able to send in their recommendation for a charity where ‘Make a Child Smile’ was chosen.

This year the judiciary had the support of the Central Bank of Seychelles.

“CBS is an institution that believes in giving back to the society, which is why our choir responded positively to the judiciary when they asked us to perform at their religious service which was led by our governor,” said Christopher Edmond, first Deputy Governor of CBS.

He ended by thanking the Chief Justice and the staff of the judiciary for allowing the bank to take part in this cause.

On his part Clifford Mondon thanked the judiciary and CBS and added that he appreciates the continued kindness of the community.

He also noted that there will be many more activities organised in the future to raise funds for those in need.

The sum collected will go towards the treatment of a young boy who was born with clubfoot.
