A quick chat with art student Terry Hendrick Moncherry |11 May 2020
‘I am trying to maintain a proper discipline to stay focus on my projects’
Terry Hendrick Moncherry is currently a student at the Nanjing university of Arts, studying fine arts specialising in oil painting. But due to COVID-19, he is back from China since February 1 and is staying with his parents at La Gogue. Seychelles NATION met up with him for a quick chat:
Seychelles NATION: How did you feel when you learned about COVID-19?
Terry Moncherry: At the beginning of the pandemic in China I felt unsafe and depressed. I learned more about the virus while I was on holiday in Nepal and I chose to come back to Seychelles directly on February 1.
Seychelles NATION: How are you coping with your studies?
Terry Moncherry: Right now I am having online classes for my major but I don't have all the required material for my work which makes it even harder and challenging.
Seychelles NATION: Describe your routine now that you are away from Uni life?
Terry Moncherry: I wake up and have my breakfast while looking for next project ideas. After breakfast, I go straight to paint on my balcony where there is enough light for me to paint. Then I take a short break for lunch and then I go back to paint again. In the evening, as there's less light which makes it impossible for me to paint, I stop painting for the day. Then I do some home workout for about an hour. After my workout session, I freshen up myself and help family with the kitchen work, have dinner and shower. After a busy long day I go to bed.
Seychelles NATION: Any idea when you will go back to China?
Terry Moncherry: Since China has banned all foreigners from entering the country, it is hard to say when I will return to China. But in the meantime I try to be disciplined and complete my assignments.
