The Indian Ocean Tuna Limited (IOT) yesterday announced that Nichol Elizabeth will be stepping down from his role as general manager of the company.

A communique from IOT says that Mr Elizabeth will be replaced by Ricardo Luzio, who will be moving to Seychelles from Thai Union Group in Portugal, where he is currently Plant Director of European Seafood Investment Portugal (ESIP).

Noting that Mr Luzio is hugely experienced, with more than 28 years in Thai Union Group, IOT says it has every confidence that (Mr Luzio) will be able to take the company to the next level in its operations.

This move is pending the application for, and granting of, all necessary work permits from the government of the Seychelles.

Given the current situation around COVID-19, IOT says in any case Mr Luzio will not be able to move to Seychelles immediately, but the company is working on making all preparations for a smooth transition when the situation returns to normal.

In the meantime, Jean-Philippe Martenot will continue to act as the general manager of IOT, alongside the highly-qualified and experienced staff that are operating the plant. He will begin to include Mr Luzio in the key IOT action plans in order to pave the way for a smooth handover when Mr Luzio is able to travel to the Seychelles.

“IOT is a crucial part of Thai Union Group, as well as being a major company and business operating in the Seychelles. It is extremely important to us and all stakeholders that this business continues progressing and developing smoothly,” says the IOT communiqué in reference to these new developments.

It says Mr Luzio will be responsible for growing IOT even further and overseeing the next phase of this important business.
