GETUS supports petition raised by contractors |21 June 2019

The General Employer of Trade Union of Seychelles (GETUS) has supported a petition raised by contractors in a recent dispute.

The response from GETUS vis a vis the petition presented on May 17, 2019, is as follows:

“The points raised in the petition are fully actual and relevant. On the GETUS agenda all these issues are already in discussion with all the respective entities, for example, licensing, Ministry of Employment, Ministry of Finance, Providence Industrial Estate, etc.

“It is unfortunate that the persons which started the petition did not consider to contact GETUS in the first place as we are the recognised legal body that can represent employers and entrepreneurs in Seychelles.

“We are also working very closely with other parties in the private sectors such as ASE and SCCI, with the aim of having those issues fixed.

“There is already a lot of work that has been done, and some actions like this petition can take two different roads. First it could have jeopardised the work done causing delays and having the authorities to go on a defensive strategy, or it could help the confrontation.

“Seychelles is a very small island and we cannot fight on our own on different approaches, but we must unite forces to reach the same final goal.

“The points raised are completely correct, and there is an urgent need to have them solved to prevent more damages to the Seychellois entrepreneurial environment.

“Licence issues, tender process, government tender, quotas for GOP, allocation of land in Providence for contractor class 2, as per the President’s speech 2 years ago, all these are points on the agenda of GETUS.

“GETUS has the mandate to support, help, advise, represent and defend employers and entrepreneurs in Seychelles.

“Working as one will only benefit the private sector to promote Seychellois businessmen and women.

“Hope this will help you to have a clear view but also to help us make the entrepreneurs in Seychelles aware of a Union that defends business men and business women.”
