Coastguard now legally a branch of SPDF

The cabinet of ministers has approvedthe Defence (Amendment) Bill 2020 to legally establish the Seychelles Coast Guard as a branch of the Seychelles People’s Defence Forces.

This took place duringa scheduled cabinet meeting on Wednesday March 25, at which a number of legal memoranda were considered.

During the meeting, chaired by President Danny Faure, cabinet approved amendments to the Companies Act, 1972, as well as amendments to the Maritime Zones Act 1999.

Cabinet also approved the postponement of the Population and Housing Census 2020.

Cabinet was also updated on the latest situation concerning the national strategy to combat the COVID-19 pandemic.
