The 17th cohort of the Seychelles National Youth Assembly (SNYA) was officially launched last weekend in a small induction ceremony held at the Seychelles Trading Company’s (STC) conference room.

The newly appointed members had the opportunity to learn more about the SNYA, how to write a motion and deliberate on it among others.

During the induction ceremony the new members also voted for the Speaker of the SNYA, deputy Speaker and Clerk and deputy Clerk.

The Speaker of the 17th SNYA is Darius Petrousse from the Seychelles Business Studies Academy, the deputy Speaker is Shabella Simeon from Beau Vallon, the Clerk is Kristy Naiken, Anse Boileau and her deputy is Dean Figaro, Au Cap.

During the induction the young leaders were given an overview of what is required from them as a member of the youth assembly by their two facilitators, Angelique Appoo and Alvin Laurence.

Shabella Simeon stated that the points given during the induction will help her carry out her duty as a deputy speaker as well as a representative of her district.

Fysa Camille, who is representing Grand Anse Mahé, echoed the same sentiment made by her colleague and added that she will serve as a voice for the youths of her district.

“After the training they will go through seven sittings where they can bring forward motions related to youths and their districts,” said the SNYA coordinator Janetta Ali.

She stated that the new cohort will start their mandate on March 28, and they will have seven sittings throughout the year till March 2021.

Since the new cohort will be starting soon, we decided to organise a small induction session to allow the new members to learn about the SNYA. Being part of the SNYA allows the members to be more confident and develop the ability to express themselves,” she said.

Each member of the 17th SNYA will represent their respective districts and educational institutions.
