Sharing experiences and training in the field of infrastructure and urbanisation were some of the points of discussion that the newly accredited Russian ambassador agreed can be the start of a fruitful cooperation between the Russian embassy and the Ministry of Habitat, Infrastructure and Land Transport (MHILT).

Ambassador Artem Alexandrovich Kozhin met the Minister for Habitat, Infrastructure and Land Transport, Pamela Charlette, recently as part of his familiarisation visit to various ministries following the presentation of his credentials to President Danny Faure.

Ambassador Kozhin described his meeting with President Faure as a fantastic one, where they talked about numerous issues and reiterated the friendly relations which exist between their two countries and how they continue to flourish.

“I mentioned to the President that next year we will be celebrating 45 years since we established diplomatic relations. I feel such will further enhance our cooperation,” Ambassador Kozhin said.

The newly accredited ambassador of Russia to Seychelles proposed the idea of having a sister city agreement between Rostov and Victoria.

He explained to Minister Charlette the signing of an agreement between the two cities would facilitate the exchange of information regarding the development of urban facilities and infrastructure.

“We are happy to share our experiences on how we manage huge cities. Rostov, Moscow, Petersburg and many other cities in Russia both on a federal and regional level are ready to cooperate in educating Seychellois specialists in various fields through both short-term and long-term courses,” said Ambassador Kozhin.

On her part, Minister Charlette welcomed the idea for more capacity building opportunities for staff of the ministry especially in the fields of architecture.

She also welcomed the possibilities of learning best practices from Russia related to existing plans for the redevelopment and urbanisation of Victoria.

Road safety and parking policies are other fields of cooperation that the Russian ambassador noted the embassy can work on with the ministry.

Ambassador Kozhin concluded by saying the doors of the Russian embassy in Seychelles will remain open for further discussions with officials from the Ministry of Habitat, Infrastructure and Land Transport on how to enhance cooperation between Seychelles and Russia.
