President Faure chairs first meeting of Leaders' Forum for 2020 |10 March 2020
President Danny Faure yesterday chaired a meeting of the Leaders’ Forum which comprises the Speaker of the National Assembly, the leader of the opposition and leader of government business in the National Assembly, as well as the President himself and the vice-president.
The leader of the opposition, Wavel Ramkalawan, was absent at yesterday’s meeting in view of his attendance at a Commission of Inquiry.
The Forum considered the Legislative Calendar for the first term of the National Assembly. In addition to the Bills which had already been laid before the National Assembly, the Forum took note of 14 items of legislation that would be given priority.
These include certain amendments to the Constitution of the Republic, the Elections (Amendment) Bill, the Scholarships Bill, the Employment Bill, the Mutual Assistance in Criminal Matters Bill, the amendments to the Civil Confiscation of the Proceeds of Crime Bill, amendments to the Penal Code in relation to hate crimes, and amendments to the Companies Act with a focus on enhancing the ease of doing business in Seychelles.
The Attorney General, the principal legal draftsperson, the secretary of state for cabinet affairs and the deputy cabinet secretary for institutional affairs also attended the meeting.
