The Ladies Dining Society of Seychelles, a private women’s dining and discussion club based here, has been officially launched.

It was founded on November 6, 2019 by a group of 10 women who primarily wanted to assist single mothers to further their education, which would naturally lead to their career advancement and a higher salary to support their families.

The club was officially launched on February 13, 2020 at the Payanke lounge at the Seychelles International Airport, Pointe Larue.

Aimed at propelling single mothers forward, the newly formed society will also host some events annually to educate women in different fields of life. Through these events various knowledgeable guests will be invited to hold talks about a myriad of topics affecting women’s lives.

“A lot of single mothers live on pay check to pay check and we wanted to help these women by sponsoring their education,” said Neddy Nourice, chairperson of the society.

She added that they will be working with two to three women per year by sending them to classes and help them obtain a degree if they don’t have one. This will be done through partnerships with the University of Seychelles and The Guy Morel Institute.

“We will be monitoring them throughout the process and offer guidance as well,” noted Ms Nourice.

Money for this will be obtained through different activities that will be conducted throughout the year such as talks.

One of the main events that the society has hosted was a Galantine Day which held before Valentine’s Day for single women to join together.

“We got the inspiration from the Cambridge Ladies Society who worked with under-privileged women in order to better their lives,” said Ms Nourice.

She also noted that anyone can join the dining society including men but only women will be able to be on the committee.
