YouthRegister2Vote project

The first session conducted for trainee teachers enrolled on the Diploma in Education course

CDWS conducts civic education sessions on democracy and elections

As part of the YouthRegister2Vote project, the Citizens Democracy Watch Seychelles (CDWS) is conducting a series of civic education sessions at post-secondary institutions to raise awareness about democracy and elections.

The first session targetting post-secondary institutions took place at the Seychelles Institute for Teacher Education (Site) for a group of 28 trainee teachers enrolled on the Diploma in Education course.

This youth-oriented project to persuade young voters to register and ultimately vote is a partnership between the CDWS, the Seychelles National Youth Council (SNYC) and the 16th cohort of the Seychelles National Youth Assembly (SNYA) and funded by the United States embassy.

The very interactive session was facilitated by Eline Moses of CDWS and Marie-Anette Ernesta of the U.S. embassy. The discussions focused on the fundamental pillars of democracy, the right to participate in public affairs as guaranteed in the Constitution of Seychelles as well as the importance of youth participation in the electoral process.

The CDWS is a volunteer-based, non-profit, non-partisan organisation recognised as the first NGO accredited to observe election in Seychelles. Its interventions are motivated by Article 24 of the Constitution of Seychelles, which guarantees every citizen equal right of participation in the conduct of public affairs and elections. CDWS conducts civic and voter education to enlighten Seychellois about their civic rights and responsibilities, and implements a well coordinated election observation programme.

Institutions wishing to host a session are kindly requested to email cdwseychelles@gmail.com or call 2526026.
