Details about Beau Vallon development project tomorrow |03 February 2020

Details about the Beau Vallon development project will be given out during a press conference tomorrow by the Société Seychelloise d’Investissement before it launches a request for competitive proposals and bids from local architects for a comprehensive, synergetic and holistic approach for site use.

The Société Seychelloise d’Investissement (SSI) purchased the four parcels of land, namely H5339, H5335, H21, and V9344 on June 28, 2019.

The properties have an iconic location, high footfall of both locals and tourists, and is the traditional site for the annual Regatta and weekly bazar labrin events, which are embedded in the Seychelles culture. The cabinet of ministers directed that the primary aim of any development on the property is to maintain the leisure and cultural use of the site.

There are, however, a number of challenges that have been the centre of debate as a result of minimal property management, vendors operating without authorisation and food vendors not following public health regulations.

Over the past months, the SSI has engaged with different stakeholders, namely Enterprise Seychelles Agency (Esa), the department of entrepreneurship and industry, Ministry of Habitat, Infrastructure and Land Transport (MHILT), Beau Vallon authorities, Seychelles Round Table Association, sport enthusiasts, etc., to discuss on how best to address the challenges and redevelop the site given the sensitivity of the properties and environmental sustainability.

A list of approved activities has been compiled and approved.

To achieve the best solution for the site, the SSI will shortly be launching a request for competitive proposals and bids from local architects for a comprehensive, synergetic and holistic approach for site use and development.

The proposed development of the site would be in phases – with priority to the construction of toilet facilities, non-food artisanal stalls, food court, landscaping/paving of the national events area (for Regatta and other events).

During the development, SSI will use its best endeavours to maintain the bazar labrin and minimise disruptions to leisure access.

Meanwhile, the SSI has been conferred responsibility for existing vendor management, property maintenance, cleaning and security. The SSI property management team is putting in place the necessary arrangements and will be liaising with existing vendors to formalise the operating framework.
