Jemmy Marengo no longer an SPDF member

Jemmy Marengo

Jemmy Marengo is no longer a member of the Seychelles People’s Defence Forces.

Queried about whether Mr Marengo has truly been given the sack as rumours had it of late, a Seychelles People’s Defence Forces (SPDF) spokesperson told Seychelles NATION that Mr Marengo has retired from the force.

Still according to the SPDF spokesman, Mr Marengo’s contract was up for renewal in March this year, but as the SPDF gives its officers who are reaching the end of their contract a three-month “resettlement period”, Mr Marengo decided to retire from the force on December 31, 2019.

This is contrary to rumours that Mr Marengo, who had been a soldier for 41 years, has been sacked by President Danny Faure, the Commander-in-Chief of the SPDF, following reports of accusation of murder by complainants coming before the Truth, Reconciliation and National Unity Commission (TRNUC).
