The Anti-Narcotics Bureau (ANB) of the Seychelles Police Force has made several arrests during the festive season, within the period of after Christmas Day and the New Year public holidays.

These drug related arrests which involved the seizures of multiple amounts of mainly heroin and herbal cannabis were the result of a series of special ANB operations which were conducted on Mahé, Praslin and La Digue.

A total of eleven men and one woman were arrested on Mahé. The woman, a 40-year-old unemployed resident of Pascal Village, was arrested in possession of approximately 20 grammes of suspected heroin at the Montagne Posée prison on December 26, 2019 while she was trying to smuggle the drug into the prison. She was processed at the ANB Station before being released and a case of drug trafficking has been registered against her for the courts.

On Praslin and La Digue, no major arrests were recorded except for some cases of possession of minimal amount of cannabis which required caution formalities only.

In reference to the sum of R228,375 which was seized along with other drug related utensils at the residence of a 40-year-old construction contractor at La Retraite by ANB officers during one of their special operations before Christmas Day, the court has ordered that the money be kept by the Financial Crime Investigation Unit (FCIU) of the Seychelles Police Force for further investigation.
