10th Cable Tunes Awards bigger and better |07 January 2020

The Cable Tunes Awards will this year celebrate its 10th anniversary with what promises to be a memorable and show-stopping ceremony to be held on Saturday January 11 at the Berjaya Beau Vallon Bay Hotel.

The annual awards show, comprising 10 categories voted for by the Seychellois public and customers of telecommunication company Cable and Wireless Seychelles, this year includes two new categories, in recognition of the contributions of Seychellois producers towards the local music and entertainment industry.

A total of eight producers have been nominated in the Best Producer for Music category including Mouga, Ion Kid, Excellent, Girogio Bello and Ringo, and a further eight for Best Producer for Video Clips including Islandvision Studios, Darius Crea and Mikkie D.

“This year we also wanted to honour producers as they too contribute immensely towards the local music scene. As you know, on Cable Tunes TV during weekdays from 9pm onwards, we show exclusively locally-produced music video clips as well as during the weekends until three. These clips are made by numerous talented individuals and groups and we thought it would be fair to also celebrate their creativity and professionalism as it takes more than a singer with a good voice or good lyrics to make an album,” explained Public Relations, Sponsorship and Events Executive at CWS Bella Damou.

In order to qualify as a producer, the producer must have worked on or produced at least three albums, not including their own, during the Cable Tunes year from November 1 the previous year to October 31 of the current year. Albums must also have made it to the Cable Tunes platforms.

Other categories include Best Male Artist, Best Female Artist, Best New Artist, Best Single, Best Album, Best Collaboration, Best Group/ Duo and Best Video Clip.

As per usual, the soirée promises lots of exciting performances by some of the nominated artists as well as some surprises as CWS celebrates the milestone anniversary of Cable Tunes. While lines and voting for the various awards closed last night (Monday 6 at 11.59pm), attendees of the show and members of the public will have the chance to vote to select the best performance of the soirée on Saturday itself.

Following all the performances and presentations, lines will be open briefly to allow the public and attendees to log their votes through the same voting platforms including SMS Voting, before the winner is announced. Best Performances were in previous editions selected by a panel of judges.

“Feedback for the awards has been really good and most people are anticipating and looking forward. I can assure everyone that they won’t want to miss this year’s show as it will be nothing short of spectacular, with lots of things planned to wow our audience,” Ms Damou added.

While in previous years tickets were reserved to clients of Cable and Wireless, this year’s edition can be attended by any music lover with tickets on sale at the Cable and Wireless customer service centres for R250. Clients of CWS however, can benefit by exchanging 500 Cable Points for each ticket.
