Katiolo nightclub’s grand re-opening this weekend

The late Simon Esparon, founder of the Katiolo nightclub. His son and daughter intend to continue with his legacy

Katiolo nightclub, perhaps one of the most iconic nightclubs in Seychelles which has stood the test of time since its establishment in 1974, is all set to re-open its doors to the public this Saturday December 14, after a two-year closure period.

The family-owned nightclub, originally run and managed by founder Simon Esparon who sadly passed away in 2017, is to remain in the hands of his son and daughter, David Esparon and Brigitte Esparon, who intend to continue with their father’s legacy and to work to accomplish their father’s vision for the business, where he spent the majority of his time.

In preparation for the grand re-opening, the existing structure of the venue has been renovated with the addition of new design elements, although more improvements are expected early next year.

Still in keeping with the original rustic design of the club, wooden elements have been added as well as lights, adding a modern touch to the overall authentic Creole feel.

“The renovations have been financed by the family and we intend to make improvements during the coming months, maybe around January or February period for our clients. We want to get our kitchen up and running for the convenience of our clients. So far, what we have put into it, for the festive season to give our clients and prospective clients a Christmas gift,” Mr Esparon noted, explaining why the club was not ready for re-opening earlier during the year as was being speculated.

In consideration of the neighbours in the area, sound equipment in the venue has also been changed to short-range speakers, so as not to disturb others living close by.

For the hotly-anticipated opening, Katiolo is partnering with Seychelles Breweries Limited, the official importer of Johnny Walker, for the event which promises to be nothing short of spectacular.

“For the event we wanted a classy theme. Club-goers can expect live performances on the night by local artists, as well as other surprises which are sure to impress,” Ms Esparon stated.

The event will commence at 10.30pm and go on through to 5am and tickets are priced at R100 and R150 for women and men respectively prior to 1.30am. It is expected that the crowds will be bustling to get into the hotspot so club-goers are urged to arrive early, to avoid disappointment.

As well as local artists, four DJs will be present to keep the hottest tracks spinning and keep club-goers on the dance floor. In fact, the very same team of bartenders, security personnel and DJ’s will be back at the club as well as some new additions to the team, so clients can expect some familiar faces.

Ticket prices will remain the same for other days when the club operates including Wednesdays, where it will open from 10.30pm to 4am, and Saturdays in which its operational hours extend until 5am. As per usual, Wednesday night is Ladies night and the club will remain closed on Fridays, with Fridays being reserved for ad-hoc events.

With regards to the dress code, nothing much has changed with sleeveless tops, sandals, shorts (men) and baseball caps being deemed unacceptable for entry.

In a bid to be considerate to the surrounding community, heavier security will be on hand to ensure that things flow smoothly.

“For the designated car parks for clients, we do not want people loitering and we will be having security patrolling the compound. We will be very strict on loud music in the car park since we don’t want club goers to disturb the residents,” Mr Esparon further explained.

Katiolo nightclub is one of the two longest running nightclubs in Seychelles, located a stone-throw away from the Seychelles International Airport. Located by the beach with its stunning Latanier leaf roofing, the club has been a favourite with local crowds and visitors alike for the past four decades.
