Silver-lining formation workshop |12 December 2019

Develop the right habits and improve your life and that of others

Thirty youths are attending a workshop on how to ‘Develop the right habits and improve your life and that of others’.

This is an initiative from the United Nations (UN) Youth Seychelles and sponsored by the Mauritius Commercial Bank of Seychelles.

The youths come mainly from secondary institutions and organisations. Angela Payet, the legal advisor from UN Seychelles, noted that this initiative came along a year ago through a group disussion. ‘UN youth Seychelles’ realised that there are untapped potentials among the youths and we need to do something about it. Everyone is born with a silver lining that has not been tapped into and we believe that we can actually help them. Everybody wants their child to be a doctor or a lawyer. But they might not have the capacity to do so. During the year the project was explained in the schools and invitations were sent out to the students. This project is to help the youths to think about their growth in a comprehensive manner and we believe that with the help of the community we can actually motivate other youths and help them take the right path,” explained Ms Payet.

The coordinator of the programme, Marie Celine Zialor, said that The Guy Morel Institute is only coordinating the programme as it believes in it.

“This programme is designed for young people aged 12 to 16 years old. This programme is geared towards self development. This time the programme is for Mahé participants only as the sponsored could not finance the participants from the other islands. After this programme, the participants will get a certificate and we will keep their names in the database and they will be invited for future programmes,” said Ms Zialor.

During the programme, the participants will learn more on ‘Being aware of the concept of personal harmony’, Environmental dimensions, Physical dimensions, Emotional Dimension, intellectual dimension, social dimension, spiritual dimension and occupational dimension.

The workshop, which officially opened on Tuesday, will end tomorrow with an evaluation exercise.

Ms Payet is appealing to the private sector and the other organisations to keep believing in our youth and support the programmes that will develop them.
