SRC celebrates 10th anniversary with recruitment and sensitisation fair

To mark its tenth year anniversary, the Seychelles Revenue Commission (SRC) organised a sensitisation and recruitment fair in the lobby of the ICCS yesterday, as a way to educate the public on what goes on in the organisation and where the taxpayer’s money goes.

Joining SRC at the fair were two of its key partners, the Seychelles Pension Fund (SPF) and the Seychelles Licensing Authority.

“We have been organising the fair for two to three years now but due to budget constraints we were never able to organise it to the standard that we wanted it to be, so for our tenth celebration we decided to coincide it with our tenth year anniversary,” said Marie-France Fanchette, commissioner of domestic tax.

She added that in most cases people do not know where their tax money is going so this fair will help sensitise the public on where their money is going.

“Seychelles relies heavily on tax money in order for us to fund most of our projects, so we feel that education on the matter is important,” said Mrs Fanchette.

She remarked that at the moment SRC has over fifty vacancies and they will be using the fair as a way to try and recruit new staff.

Throughout its ten-year run, SRC has accomplished a lot considering that the company has collected over 79% of revenue which equals to 7 billion rupees, Mrs Fanchette noted.

She also remarked that the only constraint that they have is that their computer systems are not up to date.

“Public co-operation is important and next year we will make sure that everyone pay their taxes,” says Mrs Fanchette.

On his part, Darrel Bristol, the marketing manager for the Seychelles Pension Fund, noted that their relations with SRC is important as they work closely with the company.

“This is a good opportunity for us to get people to register with us and also showcase some of our products such as the Christmas Fund contribution and our new system where our members can get access to their statement online anytime,” said Mr Bristol.

He added that this product will give the members of SPF some peace of mind to know that their pension is being paid.

The Seychelles Licensing Authority who was also present at the fair noted that SRC is an institution that SLA works closely with by providing them with information on people who are late in paying their taxes.
