Seychelles Breweries hails the new king, ‘SeyBrew Lite’ |03 December 2019
Following the successful launch of the Slow Turtle cider and re-introduction of the SeyPearl flavours in glass bottles, local beverage manufacturing company, Seychelles Breweries Ltd, has launched its new product, SeyBrew Lite.
Bottled in 280ml returnable glass bottles, SeyBrew Lite has been designed as an ultra-premium and lighter version of the country-wide popular SeyBrew beer.
While its big brother, SeyBrew, contains 4.9% alcohol per volume, SeyBrew Lite has a lower alcohol content of 4.2%.
According to the Seychelles Breweries crew, the beer is produced with 100% malt and contains only around 30 calories per 100ml, with zero added sugar.
The beer was officially launched on Friday by Andrew Airlie, innovation and projects manager at Seychelles Breweries, during a ceremony held at the Sunset Café and Trattoria on Eden Island.
Mr Airlie revealed that the SeyBrew Lite beer bottle is ice-cold activated, featuring a temperature sensitive turtle on the label which turns blue when the glass bottle is ice-cold.
Seychelles Breweries further introduced a new draft beer glass which complements the drink, as the famous SeyBrew turtle on the beer glass also turns blue when ice-cold beverages are poured inside.
“SeyBrew should have been doing more innovations since a long time ago. Now we have invested a lot in the business; we have great quality equipment and we are ready and have the capability to make great quality liquids,” Nick Cook, Seychelles Breweries’ managing director said.
He further observed that there are gaps in the market for locally made premium drinks which SeyBrew Lite hopes to fill.
“We saw an opportunity in the cider market and we took it and, similarly, there are no light beers on the market and that’s why we did it. It is globally proven that people like light beers; in the US the number one beer is a light beer and it is the same in South Africa,” he highlighted.
He noted that the special filtration used for SeyBrew Lite makes it more expensive than the normal SeyBrew which is presently sold at R25 (plus R2 for the glass bottle redeem scheme). SeyBrew Lite typically costs R28, plus R2 for the glass bottle.
The company is marketing its novel product with the slogan: ‘Hail the new king’.
The traditional SeyBrew beer, with a strong heritage of over 47 years, is said to be the most popular beer in Seychelles, selling 3.5 times more than the second best-selling beer in the country.
