Family ministry launches one on one coaching

The Ministry of Family Affairs in collaboration with the department of poverty alleviation launched the citizens coaching programme on Tuesday afternoon at the Roche Caiman community centre.

The programme is in line with the holistic approach to community wellbeing, a programme that will help to tackle key issues that lead to poverty.

“The bigger picture would be to establish a programme on a holistic level in districts where residents will get the service that the coaches will be providing.

The coaches themselves are regular everyday folks including teachers, social workers, counsellors and retirees who will be trained in order to properly assist the masses.

In her opening address the Minister for Family Affairs, Mitcy Larue, noted that since the creation of the ministry in 2017 the number one priority remains the wellbeing of the family which is addressed through the services provided by the several departments under the Ministry of Family Affairs.

“Through all the social ills we have devised a programme to help families that are in need of assistance in raising their child, managing money and maintaining their homes among others,” said the minister.

She added that the families will be assisted by a coach who has gone through sufficient training, noting that this programme is a good opportunity to engage our families.

She noted that training for one group of coaches has already begun and more will go through it in the coming months.

The programme will be launched on Praslin and La Digue early next year.
