Seychelles to face Rodrigues in plate consolation match today

The Seychelles Under-15 selection will be in action for the last time today at the Union des Fédérations de Football de l'Océan Indien (UFFOI) tournament when they face Rodrigues in the plate consolation match at the MFA Astro-turf pitch in Trianon, Quatre-Bornes, Mauritius.

Under the guidance of coach Marc Mathiot and assistant Basil Hoareau, the young selection were drawn in group A, alongside hosts Mauritius, Madagascar and the Comoros.

They managed to salvage a single point from their three group matches following a draw and two defeats.

In their first match against Mauritius, they lost 0-4, while in their second outing against the Comoros, they boys managed an encouraging 3-3 draw.

In their third and last group match, Seychelles narrowly lost 0-1 to Madagascar, eliminating all their hopes of progressing through in the tournament.

The result placed them in the plate consolation semifinal where they met Mayotte and once again, the boys of coach Mathiot were not good enough, losing the match 1-2.

Mayotte took the lead in the 55th minute through Saïd Sallahdine, before Karim Aliriziki doubled their lead in the 64th minute.

Seychelles managed to pull a goal back in the 79th minute through Jahni Nourrice, but Mayotte managed to hold on to their lead to win the match 2-1 and qualify for the plate consolation final where they will face the Comoros who beat Rodrigues 3-2 thanks to a hat-trick by Bouchoumane Abdoulatuf.

For the cup final match which will also take place today, Madagascar will be up against hosts Mauritius, while the consolation match will feature Djibouti against Reunion.
