The Seychelles Police Force has received four jet skis from the government of the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

The four high-speed Yamaha jet skis were handed over to the Commissioner of Police Kishnan Labonte by the chargé d’affaires at the embassy of the UAE in Seychelles, Ahmed Alneyadi, in a short ceremony on Friday last week at the REFLECS3 Building, Bois de Rose.

Before presenting the keys of the jet skis to Commissioner Labonte, Mr Alneyadi said that the UAE has given its commitment to help Seychelles fight the drugs trades and other criminal activities which are affecting the society.

He also stressed that the UAE and Seychelles share a special relationship with a strong foundation of shared values and common objectives which have grown significantly over the years.

During the ceremony, Mr Labonte also accepted a batch of certificates on behalf of a group of ANB officers who attended a professional security and surveillance course in Dubai early this year.

The training was also sponsored by the UAE government.

In delivering his thank-you remarks, Mr Labonte mentioned that the Seychelles Police Force is grateful to the UAE for having been a supportive partner for many years now and for the long history of positive interaction that continue to exist between the two parties.

Mr Labonte added that the jet skis will be used by the Anti-Narcotics Bureau’s Marine Unit to conduct much needed maritime operations in our waters.

The cost of the jet skis and the recent training in professional security and surveillance totalled up to R1,600,000.

Also present for the handover ceremony were the deputy commissioners of police, the special advisor to the Designated Minister responsible for internal affairs, directors of regional maritime centres at REFLECS3, along with senior and junior officers from the Anti-Narcotics Bureau and the Marine Police Unit.
