New café opens at Espace Building
  • “It’s all about going back to basics, recreating recipes based on the savours & memories of our childhood”

A small, intimate and very personalised café opened at Espace Building in Victoria earlier this month, offering a selection of simple, wholesome food and beverages, and primarily targeting Seychellois and residents.

Wildflour Cafe offers flavoursome, “fait-maison” baked goods; a selection of salads and sandwiches made from fresh, quality ingredients; and at least one vegetarian option daily.

The focus is on clean, honest, wholesome eating, with nothing hidden, complicated or unnecessary in the recipes.

Stepping foot into the café, one can instantly recognise the plentiful use of fruity and floral ingredients, including citron, coconut and cinnamon.

The use of almonds, roses and pistachios in the baked goods is inspired by the owner, Elza Frichot-Dahoo, wanting to embrace her Indo-Persian heritage.

The customers’ favourites so far…

Spiked Bread Pudding

Rose, Almond and Pistachio Napolitaines

Local Citron and Coconut Loaf

Curried Chickpea Mega Bun

Lemongrass Cooler

In support of the community, a large portion of the ingredients used at the outlet are sourced from local farmers and butchers.

The main objective at Wildflour Café is to go back to basics, she tells Seychelles NATION.

“Growing up, we were always spoilt enough to only have the best home-baked goodies. We are now recreating recipes based on the savours and memories of our childhood”.

“We want to bring back a sense of community. We want to encourage people to take the time to eat and to eat well – to have meaningful interactions with minimal electronic distractions”.

What the customers are saying…

“Quaint, cosy hideout”

“Great food and atmosphere”

It was her love for cooking that inspired Mrs Frichot-Dahoo’s dream to open a cake and coffee shop.

“From a young age I have delighted in spending time with my family around the kitchen, learning my mum's trade secrets. Baking is in fact a ritual passed down from my mum who is a next-level amazing baker!”

“The entire business idea was born completely out of a dream which has only been made possible due to a big push from a strong, faithful, brave and supportive family. In fact, Wildflour Café is very much a family project and everything is prepared with much love.”

Wildflour Café will host its first event on October 31 to celebrate Halloween, offering customers the chance to enjoy ‘After Work Happy Hours’ from 4pm – 7pm, with drinks, light snacks and ‘spookilicious’ vibes.

For the future, Mrs Frichot-Dahoo envisions hosting more small, cozy events at the café and to be a household name on the local scene.

For those interested in popping in for a cup of coffee, the café is open Monday to Friday, from 9am to 4pm; special hours for certain holidays and events.
