The Soroptimist International Club of Victoria, the Doctors for Doctors Association and the American embassy based in Mauritius will be organising a Women’s Health-a-Thon on Saturday November 9, 2019 from 9am to 5pm at the NSC Hall, Roche Caiman.

The event will feature various doctors conducting tests and screenings, namely screening for diabetes and hypertension, HIV testing, eye tests and referrals for mammograms and pap smears.

The health professionals will also be conducting talks on various health related topics during the day. There will also be exercise classes including zumba, aerobics and yoga.

Aside from the clinical and exercise activities there will also be light entertainment by Joe Samy with various stalls showcasing local produce, namely arts and craft products, agriculture and horticulture produce and locally made fruit juices.

There will also be a live cooking show to give the public options of a more balanced diet in addition to stalls selling healthy food.

There will be bouncing castles and face painting for the younger ones.

The event itself will end with a fashion show by cancer survivors walking down a runway with the lovely vocals of local artist, Mia.

The objective of the event is mainly to create more awareness towards healthy living particularly focused on women’s health.

The event being financed by the American embassy based in Mauritius is a first of its kind locally and if successful, it can be considered as an annual event on the calendar of activities for the Soroptimist Club.

The organising committee of this event is inviting staff from different organisations, be it governmental or non-governmental, to attend the event, so as to make it a success. All staff are strongly encouraged to wear the logo of their respective organisation they are representing to showcase their support towards this initiative.
