The Central Bank of Seychelles has launched its 2020 scholarship programme aimed at attracting and inspiring outstanding individuals for employment in the financial services sector.

The Guy Morel High Achievement Scholarship Programme for the 2020 academic year was officially launched yesterday morning during a short ceremony which took place at Independence House.

The ceremony was attended by students from different public and private schools, as well as members of the general public.

A new element for this edition is the introduction of the online scholarship portal, where all information on the scholarship is easily accessible and candidates can complete and submit their application online.

Speaking to those gathered at the event, Jenifer Sullivan, Second Deputy Governor and chair of the CBS Scholarship Committee stated: “As one of the regulators of the financial services sector, the Central Bank has recognised that there is a lack of capacity in this sector. It is for this reason that the decision was taken to create this scholarship programme with the aim of increasing the number of qualified Seychellois in this field.”

The Guy Morel High Achievement Scholarship Programme is a competitive scholarship offering one undergraduate scholarship and one postgraduate scholarship, where an outstanding candidate in each category is selected among a pool of applicants, based on a record of high academic performance, personal motivation to work in the financial services sector, as well as performance in an interview with the CBS Scholarship Committee.

For the 2020 edition, fields on offer for the undergraduate scholarship are Economics, Accounting, Finance, Law and Banking. For postgraduate studies, candidates can choose among the specialist fields of Financial Technology, Financial Journalism, Financial Law, Taxation and Customs Management, and Anti-Money Laundering and Compliance.

The scholarship is open for citizens of Seychelles and covers tuition fees, monthly stipend, book and clothing allowances, as well as return airfares. The deadline for application is February 29, 2020.

Further information on the scholarship as well as application guidelines can be found on the CBS website: www.cbs.sc
