Teachers' Day message by the leader of the opposition Wavel Ramkalawan ‘Teaching is the oldest and most noble profession’

Mr Ramkalawan

"The teaching profession is the oldest and most noble profession. From our mother's breast right into responsible adulthood, we are blessed in being taught good manners, knowledge and through these, not only do we gain intelligence, but most importantly, wisdom.

“Today we recognise the men and women who have made it their vocation in life to pass on these qualities to others so that intelligence may indeed help individuals play an important role in making our community, country and planet a better place to live in.

“First of all, we say thank you for your devotion. Without the courage to wake up each day regardless of all adversities, to face your class, we and our children would be different. We wish you extra strength.

“Secondly we thank you for your patience. The ability to help us understand figures, formulas and facts is simply the God-given gift you have been endowed with. Remember that your time to help us understand the difference between a D and a B has been well appreciated.

“As you face greater challenges daily, our hope is that you will not give up. Rise above these and remember that you are well appreciated and loved.

“To all our teachers, retired and active, I wish you a blessed day. Thank you for having been there. Continue to seek from the Omniscient one, knowledge and guidance. Have a blessed day. Merci.
