Volleyball - Premium Spikers men’s division one league champions

Premium Spikers are this year’s men’s division one league champions

Premium Spikers have won the men’s division one league title after beating closest rivals Neo Boyz 3-0 (25-28, 25-17, 25-21) in a match played over the weekend at the Palais des Sports.

With six wins and a 2-3 loss to Beau Vallon in the first leg, Premium Spikers sit at the top of the men’s six-team league table with 19 points. With the win, they dashed the hope of Neo Boyz who were hoping to win a first league title and now will have to settle for the runners-up position with 16 points.

A loss for Premium Spikers in their last league match will not affect their position on the table.

Beau Vallon also won their match over the weekend with a 3-1 (20-25, 25-13, 25-20, 25-21) victory over Ton Neo. The win brought Beau Vallon into third position on the table with 15 points after having won six games and with one loss. A win in their last match will bring Beau Vallon to one point behind Premium Spikers for second position.  Without a win in seven matches, Ton Neo are at the bottom of the league table with zero point.

It is to note that the 2018 men’s league champions Swimblue Pals did not take part in the league and have since been disbanded.

Meanwhile, in the women’s division one league, Cascade beat Island Waves 3-0 (27-25, 25-11, 25-16) to stay unbeaten and lead the standings with 23 points after playing eight matches.

Even though Cascade boast a slight advantage, the women’s division one league still remains wide open for the time being as City Ladies brought their tally to 17 points from seven matches played with a 3-0 (25-17, 25-16, 25-20) victory over St Michel Sisters. They still have a chance to catch up with and even overtake the league leaders if they win their remaining three matches and Cascade lose their two games.

But another loss for City Ladies will automatically see Cascade being declared the women’s league champions.

With no wins from eight outings, St Michel Sisters are carrying the weight of the table with zero point.

Arsu are in third position on 14 points after beating Mont Fleuri United 3-1 (25-8, 20-25, 25-18, 25-21) in their eighth match. With the loss, Mont Fleuri stay in fifth position on three points.

Meanwhile, the Land Marine Cup Tournament for second division sides continued last weekend and the following are the results:

Men division two – Air Waves beat Neo Youth 3-0 (25-14, 25-17, 25-22), Anse Royale beat Air Waves Lads 3-1 (25-18, 25-22, 23-25, 25-10), Outsiders beat San Francis Brothers 3-1 (25-21, 19-25, 25-23, 25-20)

Women division two – Praslin Island Pearls beat St Louis Bombers 3-0 (25-15, 25-23, 25-20), Victoria Sisters beat Arsu Youth 3-1 (25-19, 25-23, 22-25, 25-20), SeyPearl beat Arsu Youth 3-0 (25-8, 25-17, 25-12), Praslin Island Pearls beat San Francis Sisters 3-1 (27-25, 24-26, 25-21, 25-7).
