‘No xenophobic attack on Seychellois student in South Africa,’ says ANHRD |21 September 2019

There has not been any xenophobic attacks on any Seychellois students on campus in South Africa, the Agency for Human Resource Development has confirmed.

However, the Agency for Human Resource Development (ANHRD) has confirmed in a communiqué released yesterday that one Seychellois student was involved in an incident outside the campus in Port Elizabeth.

“The incident is not related to the attacks on foreigners which were principally in Johannesburg and Pretoria.

“The student is currently receiving medical attention and all necessary support from the ANHRD, the high commission in Pretoria, the 43 Air School in South Africa and the Seychelles Air Force where he is a staff,” adds the communiqué.

The agency has also confirmed that the Seychelles high commission in South Africa is in contact with Seychellois students there and is keeping them regularly updated on any developments.

Still according to the communiqué, the high commission has also confirmed that the attacks on foreign nationals have more or less subsided and that most provinces are generally quiet although usual precaution when travelling to South Africa remains necessary.

Anyone wishing to contact the high commission for further information can do so on its consular hotline: +27604907952 or email on sez@seychelleshc.co.za

“The ANHRD would also like to advise the general public to avoid disseminating misinformation which can create panic and unsavoury feelings among the general population,” adds the communiqué.
