Miss Seychelles Plus 2019 reaches out to deaf women, helps single mothers, promotes sports

Miss Seychelles Plus 2019 Christy Bradburn and friends have been keeping themselves busy of late

Miss Seychelles Plus 2019 Christy Bradburn has embarked on an emotional aspect of her project which is to empower women of Seychelles in different facets of life.

Three weeks ago, she took the initiative of launching the first healing group which successfully brought a group of women together to talk about different social issues that are affecting our society.

She believes that putting women together with mutual issues can heal and have a positive impact on each other. The meetings are held every Thursday in the Roche Caïman district administration office where the ladies listen, discuss and advise each other, and also try to cover a topic in each session.

Miss Bradburn said that an invitation is extended to all women around Seychelles who feel they have something to share with others regarding the social aspects that are affecting our country.

Furthermore, Miss Bradburn was invited for a meeting with Anita Gardner, the chairperson of the Deaf Association of Seychelles where they discussed the calendar for 2019, and which contained events such as Miss Deaf Africa and Miss Deaf Indian Ocean which will both be held in December 2019.

As Miss Seychelles Plus 2019, Miss Bradburn has proudly accepted the invitation to be a judge in both events, and will also be collaborating closely with Mrs Gardner to do some projects with Miss Deaf Africa in schools such as educational talks and empowering some young deaf women to raise awareness regarding the social aspects of our communities.

On August 31, 2019, Miss Bradburn and first princess Sharon Orphée and second princess Angela Esparon, organised a fun walk that saw the involvement of several plus size ladies and members of the public in general.

Their main objective was to find a way to have a healthier lifestyle while they can still have fun and at the same time collect voluntary funds from members of the public for donations to help single mothers in need.

The fun walk started from Victoria to Mont Fleuri, Plaisance and ended at the Roche Caïman playing field where they finished off with some stretching exercises.

Miss Seychelles Plus 2019 said that this was their first attempt at organising such an activity to encourage plus size women to be healthier. She plans to hold a second walk in another region of Mahe.

Together with her first princess, Sharon Orphée and second princess, Angela Esparon, Miss Bradburn highlighted the fact that "we can still be fit and do physical exercises even if we are not the average size."
