An updated guide to wedding trends |06 September 2019

From balloons no longer being an option, to detailed-to-perfection dresses that show off beautiful silhouettes, Seychelles NATION presents you with an updated guide of wedding trends from an exclusive interview with Lorraine Dalpez, founder of renowned ‘Mr. & Mrs. Weddings and Events’.

The locally-based company organises and fully plans weddings and events from beginning to end, as well as personalised theme decor for clients who would like to have different and unique events. This is all done on a professional etiquette, whilst truly finding the essence behind the clients’ desires.

Outdoor

Clients are desiring to have more outdoor and free-space weddings, with lights and candles, free spirit weddings I call it.

It's more cozy and intimate, however there are so many risk factors like if it rains let's say, then we have to ensure we have a plan B.

Balloons

Balloons are a new ‘NO NO’ as it is a less classy option which brides are trying to aim for. Balloons have forever been popular but people are wanting to explore new horizons and making their weddings unique.

Also the fact that the world’s focus is mostly about being eco-friendly, balloons have been kicked right out as an option.

Vintage Theme

The vintage theme was the highlight over the past couple of years, however it has been overused and most brides do not like their weddings to be similar to others. They also find that with vintage chic, there are less items being used as the theme is based on its simplicity.

Yet, it has evolved into the new ‘Boho chic’ trend which everyone loves. So yes, it is the theme that I believe will last quite a while or it may even evolve into a new one...let's see!

Venues

In terms of venues, as I said before, brides tend to not marry in the same places as others have as they want their wedding to be different.

There are certain venues that have also been overused, but due to the fact that we are very limited with venues with the right risk factor elements, we try to change the look of previously used venues into something completely new, to give our clients the uniqueness they desire.

The dress

Another trend that has died is the big princess dress; everyone is more interested in the new simple yet detailed-to-perfection dress that shows off their beautiful silhouettes.

Food

In terms of food, clients are now looking into treating their guests with something more refined like canapés from our dependable supplier ‘Oui Chef’.

‘Oui Chef’ has set a new trend with canapés that has replaced the unpresentable, heavy, oily snacks; the canapés are nicely presented and honestly mouth-watering.

Favours

Wedding favours have gone from traditional to personalised. There used to be these traditional ‘bonboniers’ that the newlyweds gave to their guests, however this has died down to the now new personalised favours which the bride and groom handpick to give to their guests.

It can range from a jar of honey to laser-engraved items; the list goes on with the new mini stuff out there to use as giveaways.

Ceremonies

Church weddings are also slowly trending out, but it's still debatable as the whole spirituality essence of the wedding is very important. Other than that, couples are really into outdoor garden weddings or beach weddings.
