As part of the activities to celebrate the 20th Seychelles Youth Festival, a youth summit was organised at the ICCS in Victoria yesterday.

The aim of the summit was to give a platform to the youth to discuss matters that they feel are affecting them.

Four main points were covered during the summit, namely, education, entrepreneurship, employment and youth engagement.

The summit was attended by different groups of youth including students, unemployed youths, members from the youth assembly as well as youth leaders and Seychelles National Youth Council (SNYC) workers.

“SNYC decided to organise this summit in regards to concern that youths have pertaining the four key areas that we are discussing today. After the summit we will begin to address the concerns that the youths have raised and find a solution for the way forward,” said Nerose Pointe, coordinator of the summit.

Leanna Richard and Jean-Luc Adrienne, two youths who attended the summit, noted that the summit serves as a platform for young people to voice their opinions and be more engaged.

The summit included a presentation on entrepreneurship by a representative from the Enterprise Seychelles Agency (ESA). The presentation focused on the difference between an entrepreneur and a business person as well as the mindset needed to be an entrepreneur.

“This festival is important as we are the future generation and it is important to shape the youth at an early age as it can be detrimental in the future,” said Jules Dugasse, an attendee of the summit.

He added that during the morning session of the summit where they learned about entrepreneurship and engagement the attendees focused more on activities or lack thereof instead of addressing the real issues when it comes to youth engagements.
