PUC provides latest development on restoration of power supply on La Digue First generator set operational, second one to be commissioned on Friday |21 August 2019
The Public Utilities Corporation (PUC) wishes to inform customers on La Digue that the first generator set is now operational.
“This will help alleviate some of the inconveniences associated with ongoing load shedding,” says a communiqué from PUC.
However, low level of load shedding will continue until Friday, August 23 when a second generator set, which has just arrived on La Digue, is expected to be commissioned.
In the interim, PUC will continue with its efforts to raise the cable and repair it. “Unfortunately condition on the ocean floor continues to prevent divers from accessing the cable to bring it the surface where repairs will be undertaken,” notes the communiqué from PUC.
It is to be recalled that La Digue residents have been experiencing interruptions in power supply since Wednesday last week as a result of a fault on one of PUC’s undersea cables that carries electricity to the island.
