One Seychelles has officially been registered as a political party making it the 12th registered political party in Seychelles.

Electoral Commission chairperson Danny Lucas presented the certification documents which confirmed One Seychelles as a political party, to its president, Alain St Ange, the former Minister for Tourism, Civil Aviation, Ports and Marine, at the commission’s headquarters at Aarti Chambers, Mont Fleuri, yesterday morning.

The presentation of the documents which sees One Seychelles in the books of register of political parties, was attended by the party’s secretary general Peter Sinon, treasurer Vincent Padayachy and committee members Justin François and Jean-Claude Denis.

This was in the presence of other members of the Electoral Commission – Patrick Hoareau and Norlis Hoareau.

Launched on April 26, 2019, One Seychelles handed in its documents in June 2019 which consist of its logo, colour of the party, a manifesto, and at least 100 signatures from eligible voters who had endorsed the party.

Mr Lucas said that all of One Seychelles’ documents were in order and in accordance with the requirements needed to register a political party within one month of submission of documents with the commission. Apart from internal verifications, the commission also sought advice from the Attorney General’s Office, something Mr Lucas said the commission will do away with in future with the appointment of its own legal advisor.

“Today we are very happy that we have obtained our certificate as a political party registered in Seychelles and one that will work for Seychelles,” Mr St Ange said.

Mr St Ange noted that the party was founded by a group of people on Mahé, Praslin and La Digue with the intention of filling that gap that exists in the Seychelles political arena, thus giving another choice to every Seychellois who are not satisfied with the other parties, especially the two main parties, and are looking for consolation somewhere else.

Mr St Ange said that with the party’s motto ‘Islanders First’, One Seychelles will and is working to bring the Seychellois people together, thus putting Seychellois first.

The One Seychelles executive committee consists of 12 members.

During the certificate presentation, Mr Lucas also announced that the 2020 presidential election will take place in August 2020 but no set date has been finalised.

He noted that soon the commission will embark on a reach-out voter’s education campaign but for the time being he would encourage all eligible voters to check their names on the voter’s register at the different regional electoral centres or to come to the headquarters to do so.
