The quality and quantity of the artworks, as well as the level of talents of the children have surpassed the expectation of the judges at the inaugural Rupys Art Splash Competition organised by the Mauritius Commercial Bank (MCB) Seychelles branch, managing director Bernard Jackson has said.

Mr Jackson was addressing the winners and parents yesterday during the official prize-giving ceremony at Caravel House in Victoria.

Through the competition, which was launched on June 4, just after Children’s Day to further the celebration, the MCB Seychelles aimed to promote the interest of art among children and the youth of the country, thus bringing out their imagination.

Hosted online under the theme ‘The beauty of Seychelles’, it was also to encourage children to participate without adversely being impacted by the current restrictions and pandemic.

In total, the bank received 97 submissions with 58 from the below 12 years old category and 39 from the between 12-17 years old category.

In the below 12 years old category, the grand winner was Hannah Morel, followed by runner-up Emily Morel and third-placed Mattino Lesperance.

Ahmad Shaazim Emre won the prize for the most ‘liked’ artwork on the bank’s Facebook page.

In the 12-17 years old group, Caleb Simeon came out first, followed in second place by Joshua Nourrice, while Angela Mazzorchi finished third overall.

The bank also awarded the top-ten finishers in each category with a certificate and prize.

Other than congratulating the young artists for their excellent work, Mr Jackson also encouraged them to continue practising art, thus pursuing that journey with the hope of becoming future professional artists.

For each of the categories, the best artist received a Rupys savings account voucher of R3000, with second and third place receiving R2000 and R1000 respectively.

All the artworks were in landscape orientation and A4 size, while for submission, parents created a digital image of the artwork by scanning or taking a photograph of the child’s artwork.

The image resolution of the artworks was at least 1080x1080 pixels and the parent or legal guardian posted the image on the MCB Seychelles’ Facebook page.

Overall, the competition has received positive feedback from parents and the general public which due to popular demand led to the submission deadline extension from June 17 to 25.

Through word-of-mouth and via increased engagement on the MCB Seychelles’ Facebook page, the participants obtained greater recognition for their skills and artwork.

The competition is branded under the MCB Rupys which is a product that provides customers the opportunity to open a savings account for their child while gaining access to a series of benefits.
